Logo Cosmos COSMOS is the European standard - with international scope - that has been mandatory for all new organic cosmetic products since 1 January 2017.

From 1 January 2017 onwards, a cosmetic product labelled "bio Cosmebio" (organic Cosmebio) is no longer certified according to French standards Bureau Veritas or Ecocert but in line with the European standard, COSMOS. The aim is to harmonise the various standards to make life easier for consumers. The purpose of the COSMOS signature is to help consumers identify biological cosmetics complying with the same requirements, from one country to the next.

As regards the formulation, cosmetics containing the following will be labelled with the Cosmos Organic signature: 95 to 100% of natural origin ingredients (as before), 95 to 100% of organic ingredients for plant-based ingredients (as before), maximum of 5% of ingredients approved in a positive list (as before).

However, 2 new criteria have been added to the Cosmos standard making requirements for organic cosmetics more stringent than before:
The organic ingredient content of the total ingredients has increased from 10 to 20% for non-rinsed products.
Biodegradability: only biodegradable ingredients are accepted.
detergent eco The products with the label "Eco-friendly Detergent" contribute to the protection of the planet and its resources through better handling of discharge and waste.
