What is the difference between rooibos and tea?
Rooibos is often called red tea although it is not a tea. Indeed, it comes from an African shrub (Aspalathus linearis) which is totally unconnected to the tea tree (Camellia sinensis). Unlike tea, rooibos does not contain caffeine. You can enjoy it all day long (even in the evening). It will never affect your sleep. Moreover, it contains very few tannins - the substances that cause bitterness in strongly brewed tea. Therefore, rooibos is a rather sweet beverage with none of stimulating effects of tea.
