Vaginal microbiota is flora comprising lactic acid bacteria, known as lactobacilli, which help to protect the intimate area from infections by limiting the growth of pathogens (bacteria, fungi, etc.).
A number of factors can alter its composition such as fluctuations in hormone and pH levels as well as external irritants, which can affect the balance of both the vaginal flora and mucosa. An imbalance in the vaginal microbiota weakens it and makes it more vulnerable to harmful germs. This contributes to the onset of vaginal infections.
